Getting There

Hard time getting there: This week in road obstructions

In this 1979 photo, city road crews start repair work on the Monroe Street Bridge approach which washed out, leaving a 40-foot dropoff at the south end of the bridge. The structure was to be closed at least two months for repairs, prompting a new look at plans to build a $7 million to $10 million bridge across the Spokane River at Lincoln to replace the Post Street Bridge. Meanwhile, a state financial expert in Olympia said he opposed a proposed 60-day suspension of Maple Street Bridge tolls to ease traffic congestion created by the Monroe bridge washout. This just in from the city of Spokane:

  • CITY CREWS ARE MONITORING STREETS FOR SNOW AND ICE

City crews are monitoring street conditions for snow and ice 24 hours a day to ensure fast response when conditions change.  With winter weather unpredictable, we ask drivers to be prepared for winter driving conditions at all times.

  • STREET SWEEPING CONTINUES

Crews will be sweeping in the Hamblin area with an anticipated finish time of Sunday, December 21.  They will move to the Liberty/Lincoln area and next to the Gonzaga area.

  • LEAF PICKUP CONTINUES

City of Spokane Street Maintenance crews will begin regularly scheduled leaf pickup Wednesday, Nov. 12. In the event of snow, leaf pick up will stop and then continue when weather allows. Cars will need to be moved off the street during the scheduled leaf pickup time to ensure neighborhoods are cleared of as many leaves as possible.
