Yesterday, I cycled six miles with the mayor.

He and state transportation secretary Lynn Peterson, state Sen. Andy Billig and City Councilman Jon Snyder rode around the Perry District as part of the first Commute of the Century ride during this week's Bike to Work Week.

Here's a snippet of our ride.

The voice you hear is that of Barb Chamberlain, executive director of Washington Bikes. She came over from Olympia to help kick off the week's events. So fun.

And here's a photo of a police officer who rode along. I didn't catch his name, but he photobombed me like a pro.

Today, if you've got the time and lunch, city folks will ride near Comstock Park on the South Hill. It'll be about a five mile ride showing off the city's bike-friendlier routes. Start time's at noon, and you'll get a free t-shirt, and snacks at the end.

Here's a map of the ride.

Let us know if you go, and send us pictures.

Lastly, here's a city-produced video of yesterday's ride, along with Mayor David Condon's press conference that preceded the ride. You can watch him and others talk about bike related stuff - including a new bike registry in town - or skip ahead to 9:00 to watch a montage of the ride.
