OKAY, GREAT, BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES AN ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN DO?
This may give you an idea:
Directs and/or participates in the work of lower level Accounting Technicians. Journalizes to special, sub or general ledgers and reconciling ledgers.
Audits cash reports, billings, receipts, funds, and performs general internal audits.
Creates and maintains computerized spreadsheet programs on personal computers.
Performs payroll accounting and maintains related records.
Assists in accounting systems design and procedural changes in established procedures which conform with BARS or policy or applicable law.
Assists in preparing annual reports and department budgets and in balancing various funds.
May assist other agencies, departments and/or special districts with difficult accounting or coding problems.
Maintains utility, payroll, fund, grant accounts and central billing - County physical inventory, fixed asset, township maintenance/operations and building rental accounts, and investment accounts.
May operate cash register to receipt payments. Processes NSF checks returned by the bank.
May prepare or assist in the preparation of vouchers for payment of bills.

Three (3) years of accounting related work experience or substituting successful completion of an AA degree in Accounting or equivalent accounting related course work for up to 2 years of the required work experience.
