
Temporary Pre-Apprentice
Kootenai Electric Cooperative is located in scenic North Idaho, the heart of abundant recreational opportunities. Settled in a beautiful lakefront mountain setting, it is a favorite destination for tourists. Just outside our back door are national forests, lakes, rivers, and trails offering plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, boating/water sports, fishing, hunting, golfing, snow sports, and much more. The four distinct seasons offer recreational opportunities year-round. The Coeur d'Alene/Hayden metropolitan area also offers a variety of entertainment and shopping venues and is a short 45-minute drive to Spokane, Washington and access to domestic and international air travel.
The purpose of this position is to help perform emergency repairs and other maintenance on overhead and underground power lines, help with the construction of all overhead and underground power lines, and to perform all other assigned job duties in the safest and most efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Assists with all ground framing and hardware dismantling of power poles.
Assists with all job-related material handling.
Locates, identifies, and retrieves all line hardware for daily job use.
Sends material to and from the ground to personnel in elevated positions.
Locates, identifies, and retrieves all line equipment and tools for daily jobs.
Locates, identifies, and retrieves all line tools for daily jobs.
Practices, under supervision, to become qualified in pole climbing and working on secondary de-energized lines.
Assists with the installation of power poles and overhead equipment.
Assists with the installation of all underground cable and equipment.
Assists with moving material to and from vehicles.
Assists with all vehicle good housekeeping.
Assists with all ground preparation for the installation of overhead and underground equipment.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education/Experience:
High school graduate or possess equivalent such as GED.
Completion of line school preferred.
One year of experience working in an outside environment doing physical labor,
Must have or obtain valid driver's license with Class "A" CDL endorsement within 6 months (obtained on own).
Must have or obtain first aid card within first 6 months.
Knowledge/Skills:
Basic knowledge of all types of physical labor.
Must have communication skills and the ability to work with other employees.
Must be able to read and write English and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Must be courteous and respectful to fellow employees.
Must be able to lift heavy objects and do hard physical labor.
Personal Fitness
Must undergo a physical examination (post job offer) by a physician (prescribed by and at the cooperative's expense) and release the results of the Cooperative to determine fitness for employment. The examination will include testing for drug and alcohol.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift/control 225 lbs. (deadweight) with use of handline and block.
Working Conditions/Hazards
Working in an outside environment in all types of weather. Working long and irregular shifts. Must be available for unscheduled work.
Travel may be required.
