Coronavirus cancellations, closures and postponements

As the coronavirus outbreak expands, numerous community events are being canceled to help curtail the spread of the virus. We have a running list of canceled events here. If your event is being canceled, please send information to news@spokesman.com or features@spokesman.com. For sports events, email sports@spokesman.com.

Announced Thursday, April 30

Art on the Blacktop, originally scheduled for June 12-14, has been canceled.

Announced Tuesday, April 28

The 2020 Browne’s Addition Summer Concert Series has been canceled based on the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. To contact Browne’s Addition Neighborhood Council, email browneshood@gmail.com.

Announced Monday, April 27

The Friends of Manito Spring Plant Sale, originally scheduled for June 6, has been canceled out of concern for the health and well-being of volunteers and the general public. The organization is optimistic that it will be able to hold its Fall Plant Sale as scheduled on August 29.

Broadway in Spokane has announced its 2020-21 season, a mix of rescheduled performances and new. “The Book of Mormon,” scheduled for May 5-10, has been canceled. “Jersey Boys” has been rescheduled from April 2-5 to Feb. 3-6, 2021. Nat Geo Live!: Social in Nature has been rescheduled from April 16 to June 18. Nat Geo Live!: From Summit to Sea on May 21 and “Mean Girls” from August 11-16 will take place as planned. New additions are “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” from Nov. 14-15, “Anastasia” from Dec. 22-27, “Cats” from Jan. 12-17, “Come From Away” from Feb. 16-21, Nat Geo Live!: Force of Nature on March 11, “Hamilton” from April 13, 2021-May 9, 2021, Nat Geo Live!: Improbable Ascent on May 13, 2021, “Fiddler on the Roof” from May 18-23, 2021 and Nat Geo Live!: How to Clone a Mammoth on June 9, 2021.

Performances of The Book of Mormon, scheduled for May 5-10, 2020 at the First Interstate Center for the Arts has been canceled. Individuals who purchased tickets to through the TicketsWest box office, BroadwaySpokane.com, or TicketsWest.com will automatically receive a full refund.

Announced Friday, March 20

Petty Fever’s May 30 show at the Bing Crosby Theater has been canceled. For questions regarding ticket refunds, contact TicketsWest at 1 (800) 325-7328.

The Spokane Symphony Concerts have been canceled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season. Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox has also canceled most other shows, with exceptions: Walt Wagner Trio has been rescheduled for June 5, Ronnie Millsap has been rescheduled for Sept. 28, Glenn Miller Orchestra has been rescheduled for March 22, 2021 and The Allman Betts Band, Star Wars in Concert, Julia Sweeney: Older and Wider Taping and The Flaming Lips are postponed and pending reschedule. Chris Young’s May 7 show at the Spokane Arena has been canceled. Online and over-the-phone tickets will be automatically refunded – physical ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

Lake City Playhouse’s production of the musical “Matilda,” set to open on April 10, is being postponed. Theater officers say they hope to stage the show this summer.

Announced Wednesday, March 18

2nd Look Books canceled the book signing with Stephen Pitters, scheduled for March 28. This follows a two-week closure of the store.

Musicfest Northwest has canceled its festival for this year. It will postpone its 75th anniversary celebration until May 2021. Visit musicfestnorthwest.org for more information and new educational offerings.

Whitman County Library District has now closed all book drops and is asking patrons to keep library resources at home until they reopen.

Announced Tuesday, March 17

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho have canceled all booth sales of Girl Scout Cookies, which were scheduled to run March 27-April 19. Delivery of pre-ordered cookies has been delayed at least two weeks, to help preserve social distancing protocol. Details on delivery options will be released at a later time.

The Hope for Creation Conference, scheduled for April 17 and 18 at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, is postponed until further notice.

The Spokane Bike Swap and Expo, set for April 18 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, has been postponed, with a new date to be announced later.

The North Idaho Just Between Friends consignment sale scheduled for April 17-19 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds has been pushed back to June 19-21.

The Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre box office will be closed to walk-in customers until April 6. Patrons may email info@cdasummertheatre.com or phone (208) 660-2958 during normal business hours, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

The Spokane Authors and Self-Publishers meeting scheduled for April 2 has been canceled.

All areas of Northern Quest Resort & Casino, Kaslipel Casino, Kalispel Golf and Country Club and Fatburger 5-mile will be closed for at least two weeks. Effective immediately.

Announced Monday, March 16

The Spokane Valley Senior Center at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, operated by the city of Spokane Valley, will close remain closed through April 24. Additionally, the Arbor Day celebration will be rescheduled in the fall, and all city parks and recreation classes though April 24 are canceled.

All Kootenai County Fairgrounds events are postponed through April. Visit www.kcfairgrounds.com for rescheduled dates.

The Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre is closed until April 9.

The State of the City Address for Spokane Valley address has been postponed until an unknown later date. The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce will notify the public at a later date when it is rescheduled.

The board of North Idaho Quilters has canceled the March 23 general meeting and the retreat to Palouse Divide, March 26-29. Activity Day, on April 11, will continue as scheduled.

The YWCA at 930 N. Monroe St. will close to the public effective Tuesday. Critical services, including access to our 24-hour safe shelter, will remain available via phone, Skype, or email when possible during this time. Existing clients may call their caseworker with questions and information. The 24-hour domestic violence helpline will remain available; confidential advocates are available by calling (509) 326-2255 or by emailing help@ywcaspokane.org.

Spokane Civic Theatre has announced that productions of “Cabaret,” “The Humans,” “Exile,” and “Funny Girl” will be postponed and rescheduled to yet undetermined dates. “Funny Girl” auditions and academy classes through March 31 have been canceled. The box office will be open for phone inquiries only, Tuesday-Fridays from 2-6 p.m., at (509) 325-2507, or by email at boxoffice@spokanecivictheatre.com.

The Coeur d’Alene Blues Festival, scheduled for this weekend at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, will move to March 19-21, 2021. Ticket holders and overnight guests may transfer their reservations to next year or receive a full refund. Please call (855) 990-0246 for future arrangements and more information.

The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene will be closed to members and the public, and programs and regular offerings will be suspended through April 5.

The Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises, including the the Wine Extravaganza Cruise with J. Lohr on April 10, and the Easter Brunch Cruise on April 12, are canceled until April 18.

Bridgepress Cellars’ Spokane Blues Festival planned for May 8-10 has been rescheduled for Nov. 20-21.

Unity Spiritual Center has announced that all groups, classes, events and Sunday services will be canceled until April 26. For questions, call (509) 838-6518.

Mobius Children’s Museum and Science Center will be closed for all programs until March 31. If you have signed up for a camp, birthday party, or field trip (scheduled between March 17-31), the staff will be reaching out directly to make new arrangements. Audubon Park United Methodist Church is canceling all further Daily Bread Breakfast Tuesday programs, until further notice. They will continue to be open on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month for their food bank. For more information, visit audubonparkumc.org.

Whitman County Library District has closed all 14 branches and the Center. For Patrons who have library materials checked out, due dates will be extended for the duration of the closure and book drops are open for convenient return.

Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard park will close for the “foreseeable future.”

Spokane’s climbing gyms Wild Walls and the Bloc Yard Bouldering Gym are closed until further notice.

The Inland Northwest Wildlife Council has canceled Tuesday’s general meeting. The retirement party for outgoing Executive Director Wanda Clifford will be rescheduled.

The Coeur d’Alene Library is closed until further notice. Patrons may still place holds online at www.cdalibrary.org, and staff will attempt to offer curbside delivery services. The branch in Lake City High School closed on Friday. The deadline for the library’s annual writing competition has been extended to April 18.

The Eastern Washington Genealogical Society Annual April Seminar, originally scheduled for April 4, has been postponed until May 2, at the earliest.

Eastern Washington University has announced the cancellation of its annual literary festival, Get Lit! Literary Festival, April 16-19.

First Interstate Center for the Arts has announced the cancellation of Joe Bonamassa and the postponement of Jo Koy, Shen Yun, Behold Jesus, Baby Shark Live!, “Jersey Boys” and Nat Geo Live!: Social by Nature. Jo Koy has been postponed until Oct. 24. All other shows are postponed with new dates to be announced. Tickets for all shows will be honored on the new date.

Central Valley High School has canceled the remainder of its dates for the Winter musical production of “The Little Mermaid,” through March 22.

The Kitchen at Second Harvest has canceled all of their scheduled community cooking classes and events through April 14.

The Steve Aoki Neon Future IV: The Color of Noise Tour April 21 show at the Knitting Factory has been postponed and is pending reschedule. Tickets will be honored on the new date.

The Shadle Park Spring Craft Show to be held March 28-29 have both been canceled.

The Allen Stone March 22 concert at the Knitting Factory has been postponed and is pending reschedule. Tickets will be honored on the new date.

The Lights Out 2020 Tour with Kayzo May 7 show at the Knitting Factory has been canceled. Tickets purchased online will be refunded automatically. Any other tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.

The Othello Crane Festival, set for March 20-22 in Othello, Wash., has been canceled.

The city of Spokane Public Libraries will remain closed until at least April 13. Materials checked out will be extended with due dates on April 13. Book drops will be closed as well.

All Spokane County Library branches will remain closed until April 24.

The March 28 Inland Northwest Writers Celebration at Auntie’s Bookstore, featuring Sharma Shields (“The Cassandra”), Ben Goldgarb (“Eager: The Surprising, Secret Lives of Beavers and Why They Matter”), Aaron Bobrow-Strain(“The Death and Life of Aida Hernandez: A Border Story”), Emma Noyes ( “Baby Speaks Salish: An Instruction Manual Inspired By One Family’s Effort to Raise a Salish Speaker”), Alexis Smith (“Marrow Island”) and Johanna Stoberock (“Pigs”) has been postponed until a date still to be determined.

The Spokane Orchid Society Show and Sale, scheduled for March 21 and 22, has been canceled.

Providence Health Care and Kaiser Permanente have canceled this year’s Bloomsday Training Clinics. The 2020 Lilac Bloomsday Run on May 3 is still scheduled as planned.

YWCA’s Spring Fling champagne brunch fundraiser to take place on April 4 at Anthony’s Restaurant has been canceled. Tickets can either be turned into a donation or fully refunded; contact community@ywcaspokane.org or call (509) 789-9312.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will not hold in-person public meetings through the first week of April. Instead, all public meetings will be streamed online or over the phone.

The Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox and Spokane Symphony Concerts have been postponed through April 10 amid coronavirus concerns. The Spokane Symphony 75th Season Launch Party has been canceled and The Allman Betts Band has canceled the west coast portion of their tour and plan to reschedule. Star Wars in Concert, Ronnie Millsap, Masterworks 8: Russian Passions, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Chamber Soirée on the Stage: Spring, Chamber Soirée at Rockwood: Spring and Julia Sweeney are all postponed and pending reschedule. Walt Wagner Trio has been rescheduled for June 5. The Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels will suspend congregate site meal services at its 12 Silver Cafés starting March 20 in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Home delivery service will not be interrupted, and those who eat at the congregate sites can sign up for home delivery. The GSC Meals on Wheels said more volunteers will be needed when more routes are added due to the suspension of congregate sites. JoJo Siwa’s March 29 show at the Spokane Arena has been postponed to June 21. Tickets will be honored on the new date.

The Northern vs. Valley Grand Slam, hosted by the Magic Lantern Theatre, has been postponed until further notice.

May’s Cher concert at Spokane Arena has been postponed until Oct. 10. Tickets will be honored on the new date, but ticket-holders needing refunds should check with their point of purchase.

Gonzaga University’s 2020 WOMEN LEAD Spokane conference, originally scheduled for March 18, has been rescheduled to June 17. The event will still take place at the Hemmingson Center at Gonzaga University.

Mac Powell and The Family Reunion’s March 21 show at the Bing Crosby Theater has been canceled. All tickets purchased online will be automatically refunded; all others can be refunded at point of purchase.

The Bridges Home Concert scheduled for March 20th at the Harrington Opera House is postponed until later in the year.

The Career and Technical Education and Transition Program Roadshow scheduled for March 20 at Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene is canceled.

Saturday’s Spokane Jazz Orchestra concert, “Rhapsody in Blue: The Music of George Gershwin,” featuring Jody Graves has been postponed until May 23. Tickets for the March date will be honored on May 23rd. Ticket holders for the May 23rd concert, “The Great American Songbook: Then and Now” featuring guest vocalist Keleren Millham are likewise advised to keep their tickets until the new date, July 25.
