Eye on Boise: Minnick concession Tweet No. 8 on ranking list

BOISE – Idaho Congressman Walt Minnick’s election-night concession on Twitter made history – according to Twitter. It was ranked No. 8 on the site’s list of the “10 Most Powerful Tweets of 2010.” The tweet, sent by campaign manager John Foster around 2 a.m. as Election Night stretched into morning, said, “Congratulations to Raul Labrador on a hard-earned win, and best of luck as Idaho’s next Congressman.”

BOISE – Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden won a preliminary injunction Wednesday blocking new leases for state-owned lake cabin sites, including 355 at Priest Lake, arguing that the state’s whole system for renting out cabin sites is unconstitutional. Though Idaho owns the land underneath, it’s long allowed private owners to build and own cabins on the lots in exchange for annual rent; some have had the cabins for generations.

High court denies challenge to cabin land rents

BOISE – The Idaho Supreme Court on Wednesday tossed out a legal challenge to rents on state-owned cabin sites on two Idaho lakes, which charged that the state Land Board violated the Idaho Constitution by setting the rents too low. But the high court didn’t rule on the merits of Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden’s challenge, saying instead that it should have started in a lower court. Wasden said he’d head to district court and refile the case.
