Retirement creates opportunity in 3rd
Speculation that Rep. Alex Wood might retire after more than a decade representing central Spokane in the state House of Representatives sparked vast interest in the seat among Democrats. After all, the 3rd Legislative District is Eastern Washington’s most reliably Democratic district.
Council to consider plan for stronger ombudsman
An effort to expand the powers of the city of Spokane’s police ombudsman may go before the City Council on Monday night. The proposed ordinance would allow Ombudsman Tim Burns to go beyond simply observing internal police probes and allow him to publish reports on those investigations – with a few exceptions – and contact the people who make complaints against police officers. He would also be allowed to interview witnesses of the incidents that led to complaints.
Council votes to look into ‘complete streets’
Bike lanes, improved sidewalks and other transportation amenities will get a renewed focus in the city of Spokane. The Spokane City Council agreed Monday to direct city workers to “identify the gaps” and locate “opportunities to supplement and fund” complete street plans.
