The adult bookstore where a cross-dressing legislator first became ensnared in a career-ending extortion scandal in 2007 is being targeted by Spokane Valley City Hall. City officials have declared the Hollywood Erotic Boutique on East Sprague Avenue a public nuisance, citing group masturbation and other lewd behavior witnessed by an undercover sheriff’s detective and chronicled in numerous pages of police reports. The city wants to impose stricter regulations.

Trial begins in shooting outside Spokane Valley bar

The trial of two men charged in connection with a shooting outside a Spokane Valley bar last February got under way Wednesday. Jarrod E. Veilleux, 30, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, and Terrance D. Riley, 33, is charged with first-degree rendering criminal assistance for helping the shooter get away.

Elderly man still missing

Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies are still searching for 71-year-old Samuel H. Counts of Spokane Valley, who was reported missing Friday. Counts, who has dementia, left his home in the 4900 block of East Ninth Ave. at about 3 p.m. Friday to go to a local store.

Armed robbery suspect arrested

Spokane police arrested armed robbery suspect Crystal Abad on Saturday evening, a week after she was accused of robbing and shooting her ex-boyfriend. Police spokeswoman Jennifer DeRuwe said Monday that Abad was arrested without incident at 4900 N. Stevens St.

Body found on roadway in Valley

The body of a 25-year-old man was discovered Sunday morning in Spokane Valley, and Spokane Valley police are investigating the case as a homicide. Spokane County sheriff’s detectives believe they know the identity of the deceased man but don’t know how he died, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy David Thornburg said in a news release. Thornburg said he expects to release more details about the case today.
