City to vote on giving developers, non-profits land for affordable housing

The city may soon be able to give its unused properties to developers and non-profit organizations who agree to build affordable housing for Spokane’s low-income or elderly residents.

A packed chambers of the Spokane City Council urged the panel to approve the law Monday night, beneath a smoky sky and a blood-red sun. Lawmakers did just that, after making a language change that appeased some of the concerns by business and utility interests in town.
