Dorothy Dean dareworthy recipes

Time has not been kind to every recipe in the Dorothy Dean collection. We came across some that are dated, dangerous and, well, disgusting by today's standards.

Dare you to try to get this past the family at dinner tonight. Savory gelatins, like the Barbecue Aspic Salad, were a popular dish when the Dorothy Dean's Homemakers Service was launched in the mid-1930s.
Maybe it was just the illustration with this recipe for Barbecued Bologna Log that makes it seem like a bad idea. Most probably don't have a spit for the backyard grill anymore anyway.
In this 1935 recipe for Cooked Goose homemakers in the Dorothy Dean department suggested letting the bird sit out overnight in a cool room before cooking it. Unless serving up a side of food poisoning to your holiday guests is a goal, don't try it.
