Then and Now: McGoldrick Lumber

The McGoldrick Lumber Co. eventually covered 60 acres along the Spokane River. Logs were stored on the Spokane River and milled lumber was dried in piles outdoors. The company added timber holdings around the region and the mill became one of Spokane’s largest employers.

1941 - McGoldrick Lumber Company covered 60 acres along the Spokane River, just south of Gonzaga College. A catastrophic fire leveled the plant in August 1945. Because new equipment was hard to get at the end of World War II and lumber prices were soft, the McGoldrick family never rebuilt.

2018 - The south half of the Gonzaga University campus was once McGoldrick Lumber, an important mill providing lumber to Spokane outlets. The business lasted 41 years until a catastrophic fire in 1945.
