Fort Sherman Chapel in Coeur d'Alene damaged in windstorm
The original Ft. Sherman Chapel was built in 1878 and named for the Civil War Union general, William Tecumseh Sherman, who visited it in the summer of 1877 on a tour of Northwest military reservations. The site chosen by him, on the shores of Coeur d'Alene Lake and the Spokane River, was platted in 1878 and the fort was completed in 1879. The historical building escaped major damage in the windstorm on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021.
