Welcome to The Spokesman-Review's new Food newsletter, where I will wax poetic about all things culinary in our scintillating city of Spokane. Talk of food prompts passionate prose from people, so let's get cooking.
1. A hearty welcome
Steelhead Bar & Grille downtown has opened after two long years of closure during the pandemic. Who's ready for the must-have steak bites, steelhead, rustic bread bowl and drinks? Count me in.
2. Lucky number thirty
O'Doherty's Irish Grille downtown just turned 30, and we sat down with owners Tim and Sam O'Doherty to learn the secrets to their success. Does it have something to do with the delicious Reuben sandwich and fish and chips?
3. More on Morsel
The former Fery's Catering & Takeout at 421 S. Cowley St. in medical row is now Ricky Webster's Morsel by Rind and Wheat, and Fery Haghighi, the loveliest of people, talks about passing on the rolling pin to Webster.
4. Good catch
Finally, wanna score free tickets to a Seattle Mariners game? Then head to Flatstick Pub downtown starting at 4 p.m. Friday.
On the horizon: Adam Hegsted's Francaise opens in the former space of Casper Fry in the Perry District, we share our favorite places to sip wine in Spokane in honor of National Wine Day (or any day), and get ready to learn more about mead, aka "honey wine."
See you next time ... and in the immortal words of the late and great Julia Child: "Bon appetit!"
