Marshall Islands natives’ celebration

There is a large population of Marshall Islands natives in the Spokane region. Marshallese gather to celebrate one-year-old Malachi Bertmen’s Birthday on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the Southside Senior Center. Hundrends gathered for the significant family event called a kemem.

Gonzaga vs. BYU (Feb. 23)

The Bulldogs hit several key 3-pointers in the first half and get to the free-throw line. That was more than enough to carry Gonzaga to a 74-63 West Coast Conference men’s basketball victory over cold-shooting BYU in front of 6,000 Thursday at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Presidents Day at Freeman Elementary

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, second-graders at Freeman Elementary celebrated Presidents Day by putting on a presidential “wax museum” for their classmates. Each student studied one of the U.S. presidents, then dressed the part and took a seat in the multi-purpose room. When a visitor touched a sticker on each actor’s hand, the child would stand up and give a talk about their chosen president.
