Your Outdoors Photos: June 2019

The Inland Northwest is full of flora, fauna, waters, scenery and active people out to savor it all. Please visit this gallery regularly to share photos of your wild experiences, learning moments, hot discoveries, favorite trips. Help us build a visual tour of what's so great about the outdoors in this region through all four seasons. This photo gallery will be an inspiration to some people. To others it will be a reminder of why we love to live here -- and get outside as much as possible.

NOTE: Before photos show up in the reader photo gallery, they must be approved by an editor. If yours does not show up immediately, fear not. The only likely delay is that an editor has not had a chance to approve new photo submissions yet. Thanks for participating!

  • This is a photo my grandfather took. He had a farm outside Waverly. On the back of the photo all it says is Oregon coast 1938. In 2016 I made the effort to find this spot. It’s Otter Point and has a vista built by the WPA in 1934. It’s still there. I took a photo which I’d also like to share.

  • 'Splish Splash"- On a warm spring day (6/11), this Trumpeter Swan at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge was takin' a bath in the cool water. After doing barrel rolls at the surface of the water, it popped up and repeatedly slapped its wings on the water for lots of splashes! Not only was it getting a good bath but it was having fun doing it!

  • Western Yellow Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly feeding on Lilac Bloom. Taken in our garden located south of Spokane. We have planted many butterfly-attracting plants over many years and we are seeing more and more of these and other varieties. We've also been successful with milkweed plants for this.

  • Western Tiger Swallowtail on Lilac Bloom. Taken in our yard south of Spokane. We've planted butterfly attracting plants over many years- including milkweed, and it has paid off as we see more and more every year. They are a beautiful addition to the enjoyment of it all.

  • Deadly Hunter Watching this dragonfly at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, June 1st, I was reminded that they catch more than 95% of the prey they target. Its enormous eyes give it an almost spherical view as it waits for prey to fly overhead. I am glad that it eats mosquitoes as well as other small insects such as flies, bees, ants and wasps.
