  • A rare hummingbird for Spokane: As of four days ago, a young male Anna's hummingbird has become a regular visitor at my home on the South Hill. His colorful gorget feathers are beginning to show, and will cover his neck and the crown of his head when he's mature. I actually had another Anna's -- a female, I think -- two weeks ago. The male has been in courting mode, "singing" loudly from the top of a bush and performing swoops and dives toward a female. I hope to see some fledglings soon!
