Baby swallows will soon leave their nest in the barn. These are our future mosquito catchers, and we welcome their presence. The little fellow at the end of the row seems to know, last in line loses for this feeding! Mom is nearby ready to swoop in carrying a big bug. Near Cheney, July 24.

The Approaching Storm. Tuesday night's thunder and lightning storm viewed from Highdrive on Spokane's south hill.
That was an epic storm, I've never seen so much lightning in one storm!

A Great Gray Owl with its intense eyes locked on it's prey launces itself for the start of the hunt.
They are the largest owl in North America some 27 inches tall but weigh very little around 2 pounds.

I like Mike was surprised to see the big group of Pelicans at Turnbull. I had seen one when I was here last week, he must have given out rave reviews. Mid July.

I was suprised to find between 50-60 Pelicans at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. Some had already taken off by the time I could capture these 49 near the exit of the drive loop.

New life on Turnbull this new calf with mom real close, lets me take it's photo.
I used a telephoto lens as not to disturb them they really added to my morning on the refuge to say the very least.
