This photo shows an encounter I had with a herd of deer on Wednesday night while out chasing the Aurora Borealis.
I was thinking that next time I'll use a different lens and shorter shutter speed, but the truth is that there probably will never be a next time for such an encounter. The Aurora is like that, always offering up once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Went to Palouse Falls State Park on this unseasonably warm Sunday, March 8th. The Palouse River was a beautiful cataract tumbling over the remnant lip of a post-Missoula flood basalt cliff into a perfect basin. It was a gorgeous day for me and my 5 y/o and my friend to hike the rim and crush the Sage in our fingers and rejoice in the stunning beauty of our state.

I took this last night from the top of Schweitzer Mountain looking down the hill towards Lake Pend Oreille and the city of Sandpoint. Skiing is still going strong up there and the snow looks powdery perfect as a dozen skiers were taking on the slopes. The moon was almost full and it is such a beautiful view of Lake Pend Oreille. I had not realized how short of a drive it is up there. It is only 12 miles from Sandpoint to the Resort on top of Schweitzer Mountain. A perfect night and a cooperating moon.
