I went out looking for meteors and, instead, found this beautiful old barn nestled into the rolling hills of a Palouse farm. I used the headlights of my car to illuminate the foreground and a long exposure to reveal the stars above.

Star trails circle the horizon, as the Aurora Borealis dances on the horizon above Sullivan Lake in northeast Washington. Look closely and you can see several shooting stars. The Aurora should be active through November 16. This photo is a composite of 150 individual, 25 second shutter clicks.

The Aurora Borealis is active in the distance at Sullivan Lake in the northeast corner of Washington State. This shot also shows a shooting star ripping through the sky. The Aurora should be active through November 15 with Sunday night looking most promising.

Manito Park Nishinomiya Japanese Garden.

Peak colors at Manito Parks Nishinomiya Japanese Garden taken on the last day before it closes on November 1. The incredible delay in a hard freeze means that the colors on the leaves have had time mature like fine wine. A couple that are regulars to the garden said they have never seen it so colorful. They also mentioned that their Japanese friends who visited the garden said it's the best he has seen.
