EUGENE, Ore. – The hitting woes that have plagued the Spokane Indians since the all-star break continued in the first game of a pivotal Northwest League series against the league leaders on Tuesday.

Spokane Indians pitcher Stu Flesland was recently named the Colorado Rockies organization pitcher of the month.

The Spokane Indians only scored in one inning Saturday, but it was more than enough to get the job done.

For the second game in a row, the Spokane Indians starting pitcher was making his first start with a new organization. And for the second game in a row, the Indians took an "L" to the team with the worst record in the league. 

Maybe it was the humidity. Maybe it was the mundanity of a long minor league season. Maybe it was the opposing pitching. Regardless, the Spokane Indians did not muster any semblance of an offensive attack Thursday.

The Spokane Indians have played a lot of close, low-scoring games in July. With two games left in the month, why would Wednesday’s contest be any different?

If the Spokane Indians have any chance to catch first-place Eugene – which enjoyed a seven-game lead at the start of play with 36 games left – for the second-half title and a spot in the Northwest League championship series, they’ll have to take advantage of every opportunity down the stretch.
