Valley man arrested in forgery investigation

A Spokane Valley man was arrested Thursday on forgery charges as part of an investigation into identity theft and methamphetamine production. Chad J. King, 31, was taken into custody about 9 a.m. at his home at 10607 E. Eighth Ave. on suspicion of second-degree forgery, possession of stolen property and an outstanding forgery warrant in connection with a ring of identify thieves, said Spokane County sheriff's Sgt. Steven Barbieri.

Bridge gets famous, moves to West Side

A heavy, oversized section of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge received a paradelike send-off Wednesday, complete with picture-snapping observers, waving transportation employees and cursing Spokane drivers caught behind the slow-moving procession. By Wednesday night, the section of bridge had traveled about 65 miles, stopping just short of Ritzville.

Empty van found; children still missing

A van connected to a Washington State Patrol Amber Alert was found in Stevens County on Monday, but authorities were still looking for the two missing children – 2-year-old Lars Baugher and 4-year-old Remi Baugher – and their father, John Baugher. The Stevens County Sheriff's Office searched Monday for the children on the ground and from helicopters.

Man charged with mistreating mother

An 82-year-old woman is recovering at Deaconess Medical Center after Spokane police removed her Tuesday evening from the squalid living conditions provided by her son. David Remington (also known as David Nagy), 52, has been charged with first-degree criminal mistreatment for keeping his malnourished and dehydrated mother confined to a bed soaked with her own urine.

Prescription drug DUIs on rise

Drinking alcohol is the leading cause of DUIs in Washington state, but law enforcement officers are becoming increasingly concerned with DUIs connected to the use or abuse of prescription drugs. Though such cases amount to only about 5 percent of DUI arrests in Spokane County, the number of prescription drug-related DUIs has been rising even as other DUI numbers drop, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Troy Corkins.

Man uses shotgun to stop pickup

A Bayview homeowner shot the tire and radiator of a pickup Tuesday evening as the driver repeatedly drove over and damaged the man's yard, fence and other property.
