A winter storm warning has been dropped after 6 inches or more of snow blanketed the region, triggering numerous collisions and setting into motion a major snow removal effort.
“Apollo 13: Mission Control” launches in Spokane on Wednesday. A portion of the Spokane Convention Center will be transformed into a replica of NASA’s 1970 mission control room in an interactive theater show retelling the story of Apollo 13. The fate of the mission will be placed in audience members’ hands as they’re tasked with bringing three astronauts home safely.
Authorities have released the identities of the two people dead following an apparent murder-suicide in Hayden.
Kootenai County Sheriff's detectives believe Daryl R. Clark, 43, shot his wife, Tina M. Clark, 48, before turning the gun on himself. Both are Hayden residents.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 900 block of Sheridan Avenue for a reported shooting about 11 a.m. today, said Lt. Stu Miller.
A man in his 40s had called 911 to report he had shot his wife and was going to shoot himself. As deputies arrived and approached the residence, they heard a single gunshot from inside the home.
Upon entering, they found a woman in her 40s dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Miller said. They then found a man in another room, also dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities have not confirmed their identities.
It is unknown at this time what precipitated the shootings, Miller said. Detectives are at the scene investigating.
Their family has been notified of the deaths. Autopsies will be conducted on Friday.

Snow and icy roadways Saturday led to numerous car accidents around Spokane County. Authorities across the county responded to 63 crashes between 4 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., said Spokane County sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Craig Chamberlin. That included the Washington State Patrol, the Spokane Police Department and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday identified the woman shot Wednesday at a party as 20-year-old Ciara R. Hardin. She later died. Spokane police arrested Chad W. Pratt, 20, on Friday afternoon, accusing him of accidentally shooting Hardin in the head. He faces a second-degree manslaughter charge.
Eastern Washington’s last remaining drive-in movie theater will close next year. The owner of the Auto Vue Drive-In Theatre in Colville, Steve Wisner, recently announced the theater will show its last film Labor Day weekend.

Homicide victim Michelle M. Koenen had a big heart. “She was a very affectionate person and she loved people,” said her mother, Doris Koenen. “She loved animals. She just loved everything.”

Second Harvest has the chance to reap an abundance of fresh produce donated by regional farmers but needs more money to deliver the food to those in need. The organization is asking the community to help raise an additional $100,000 by the end of December to pick up the food from the farms and distribute it to area food banks, which have seen a recent surge in need.
The Spokane Symphony musicians and board of directors announced Tuesday they reached an agreement settling a monthlong strike. After a weekend of intense bargaining, the musicians voted Monday night to approve a two-year contract that includes an 11 percent pay cut and three weeks of personal leave. The pay cut comes in the form of a reduction in guaranteed services, which include rehearsals, concerts and educational events.
