Jessica Yaeger, a political rookie who works in senior care, has advanced to the general election in the race for Spokane Valley City Council. But it’s not yet certain who her opponent will be November.
Former fire investigator Rick Freier has easily clinched a spot in the November election following Tuesday’s primary, but it isn’t yet clear who will face him this fall in the race for an open seat on the board that oversees the Spokane Valley Fire Department.
The EPA has given the Spokane Low Income Housing Consortium $500,000 to assess vacant land and abandoned buildings in East Central, West Central and Hillyard for contamination. Officials hope the grant will lead to affordable housing construction that wouldn’t otherwise happen.
Voters in November will decide if they want to pay a 0.2% sales tax for 30 years that would pay for more jail beds and other undefined public safety programs.
Under the new agreement, the Kalispel tribe will pay Spokane County $150,000 a year for the next 20 years, primarily to offset costs to the county’s police and court systems.
