Annual Fishing Frenzy coming to Spokane Valley

The Spokane Valley Marine Fishing Frenzy will take place on Saturday. Pro bass fisherman John Murray will speak at the free one-day event. There will be other speakers discussing techniques, the newest gear on the market and more, said Tyler Brinks, the president of the Spokane Bass Club.

Kokanee salvage season opens in Idaho

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game approved a kokanee salvage season on the North Fork Clearwater River downstream of Dworshak Dam and in the Clearwater River downstream of the North Fork Clearwater River.

Comments sought on Brebner Flat Project

RECREATION – The Idaho Panhandle National Forests is seeking public comments on the Brebner Flat Project located on the St. Joe Ranger District south of Avery, Idaho and includes the Theriault Creek, Kelly Creek, Williams Creek, and Siwash Creek drainages. The public comment period is open for 30 days, with comments accepted through March 5 according to a news release.

Beta testers needed for mobile fish app

FISHING – Anglers are being asked to test out a new fishing app developed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The free mobile app’s official release is April 2018. The app is designed to give anglers up-to-date fishing regulations for every lake, river, stream and marine area in Washington, according to a WDFW news release.

Hunting dog obedience class starting

HUNTING – A basic hunting dog obedience class will start on Feb. 18 running every Sunday through March 25. The classes are hosted by the Spokane Bird Dog Association. The class is open to any hunting dog.

Winter bird viewing on Saturday

BIRDING – Come see tens of thousands of migrating ducks and geese at the McNary National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday. Viewers can watch the birds from a newly constructed bird blind. The blind’s grand opening will start at 9:15 a.m.

Washington state wildlife officials seek comment on endangered species

WILDLIFE – Washington state wildlife managers are seeking public input on recommendations to keep the pygmy rabbit and grizzly bear on the state’s endangered species list, and to downlist the sea otter from endangered to threatened, according to an agency news release. The comment period is open through May 9.
