Scc Students To Be Tested For Tuberculosis

About 90 students at Spokane Community College are being tested for tuberculosis after a classmate was diagnosed with the contagious disease. Tuberculosis can be deadly, but it's also readily cured with proper medical treatment, said Renee Valley, tuberculosis coordinator for the Spokane Regional Health District.

Dysentery Outbreak Worrisome Health Officials Working To Guard Against Epidemic

Spokane County health officials are working to guard against a dysentery epidemic after a surge in the number of cases reported this year. At least 53 people in Spokane County contracted the potentially fatal bacterial infection this year, compared with only five reported cases last year. "This is really most disturbing to us," said Paul Stepak, epidemiologist for the county Health District.
