Millwood fire issue up to voters

The Spokane Valley Fire Department bought Millwood's firetrucks and absorbed its full-time firefighters, and the small town contracted with the department about a year ago to man the Millwood station. Instead of contracting with the town, the fire department would tax Millwood residents directly, as it does patrons who live in the city of Spokane Valley. Town residents would see their property taxes increase.

Thompson, now 57 and with more than 30 years of firefighting experience, became the Spokane Valley Fire Department chief in late February.
