Church hosts street fair

Spokane First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., is hosting an old-fashioned community street fair. Come rain or shine on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., the afternoon will include puppies from SpokAnimal CARE, a wiener-mobile with $1 hot dogs, cold drinks from McDonalds, an antique fire truck, and a visit from Pickles, the Washington State Patrol drug dog.

Unity Church schedules play about events of 9/11

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., is presenting a play to memorialize the events of Sept. 11, 2001, on Friday and Saturday. "The Guys" by Anne Nelson tells the story of a fire captain who must write the eulogies for eight of his firefighters who died that day.

Walk event will aid tissue, organ donations

The Living Legacy Foundation at LifeCenter Northwest is hosting a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) walk to raise awareness and funds for the critical need for organ and tissue donors. Right now there are more than 85,000 people across America and 1,200 in this region on the waiting list for an organ transplant. Seventeen people die every day while waiting.

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., is hosting Anton Mizerak and Kim Lorene on Sunday to accompany the Sunday service, as well as a concert at 12:30 p.m. Mizerak is a musician from Mount Shasta who plays harmonica and keyboards and writes his music in nature.

Sallye Taylor will present a workshop at Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., this Sunday. Taylor is the founder and minister of the Soul Food Unity Ministry near Kansas City, Mo. She has a degree in psychology and education from the Tennessee State University and became an ordained Unity minister in 1979. She attended graduate school at the University of Chicago and at St. Paul's School of Theology in Kansas City.

Pink flamingos will aid youths’ mission trip

The junior and senior high youths of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, have found a unique fund-raiser for their mission trip to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, next summer. Under the cover of darkness, groups of four or five of the youth group members place flocks of pink flamingos in unsuspecting recipients' yards.

Radio station hosting Christmas in July event

Local Christian radio station, Positive Life Radio, 104.9, is hosting Christmas in July on July 26. The station will be at the Christian Supply, 615 N. Sullivan Road and at the Better Living Center, 15 E. North Foothills Drive, from noon until 6 p.m. accepting nonperishable food donations for the Better Living Center and Cookie's Retreat Women's Shelter.

Monk will speak at Buddhist Temple

Bhante Seelawimala, a Theravadan monk and professor at the Institute of Buddhist Studies in Berkeley, Calif., will speak at the Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St. Born in Sri Lanka in 1947, Bhante received ordination as a novice monk in the Theravada Buddhist tradition when he was 10 and was ordained as a monk at the age of 20.
