Spokane County’s criminal justice system got mixed reviews in a new report. Here’s how it fared

The panel of criminal justice experts behind the 2013 Blueprint for Reform gave the region mixed reviews in a status update report competed earlier this month, saying the county still has a problematic number of felony filings, has transparency issues and the region needs to commit to alternative programs such as a community corrections center and fully-funding pre-trial services.

‘I’ve never seen voters this anxious’: Postmaster, county auditor say voting by mail is safe, urge voters to return ballots ASAP

The Spokane County Auditor and the Acting Postmaster for Spokane urged voters in both Washington and Idaho to get their ballots in as soon as possible. Voters can leave their ballots in a drop box by 8 p.m. on election day or mail them through the post office, but must have their ballots postmarked by election day for them to be counted.

Spokane County uses COVID-19 aid to launch $10.8 million hospitality grant program

Spokane County Commissioners approved $10.8 million in federal COVID-19 aid for a new grant program that will offer assistance to struggling hospitality businesses. The application for the grant opens next week and only restaurants, hotels, event venues and other businesses related to hospitality and leisure activities are eligible.

Two Spokane Valley City Council members say they won’t vote for budget over disagreement on street repairs

At least two council members say they won't vote for Spokane Valley's 2021 budget, saying the city council needs to find a sustainable way for the city to maintain its streets. Over the past five years revenue sources the city has traditionally depended on have waned and the city has had too find other sources, such as rollover revenue from economic boom years.

This Saturday there will be 50 Lime Scooters available across Spokane Valley. The number of scooters available throughout the city may fluctuate as the weather changes and more scooters will be available in the spring.

Three golfers hope to reopen Painted Hills GC driving range

Three golfers hope to reopen the Painted Hills driving range this spring after a brief false start this winter. The driving range has been closed for around seven years and the public will be able to use the driving range until Painted Hills is developed.
