Vernon `Van’ Vandiver Spokane

Memorial service for Vernon K. “Van” Vandiver, 71, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Vandiver died Monday in Everett, while visiting friends and family. He was born in Greenacres and lived in the Spokane Valley all his life.

He retired from Clark Trailer in 1980. Since then, he and his wife had been traveling throughout the country in their motor home.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat Vandiver, at home; three sons, Gary Vandiver of Bremerton, Gary Vandiver of Kirkland, Wash., and Jeff Vandiver of Seattle; one daughter, Jodi Wibbels of Denver; one brother, Leon Vandiver of Spokane; three sisters, Marge Rohde of Corvallis, Ore., and Gladys Geidt and Fay Baxter, both of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Mark Rhoadarmer Rainier, Ore.

Service for Mark Lewis Rhoadarmer, former Spokane resident, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rainier Community Church of God. Burial will be at Hudson Cemetery in Rainier. Columbia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rhoadarmer, 45, died Thursday at St. John’s Medical Center in Longview, Wash.

He was born in Spokane, where he graduated from high school. He attended Spokane Community College and Vancouver Bible College. He moved to Rainier in 1986.

He pastored at Shiloh Basin Church in Goble, Ore., and was a member of Rainier Ministerial Association and Rainier Community Church of God. He was also a Little League baseball coach and umpire, a member of the Kiwanis, pack leader for Boy Scouts, and the director of HOPE Food Bank in Rainier.

He is survived by his wife, Mardell Rhoadarmer, at home; one daughter, Colleen Rhoadarmer, and two sons, Nathan and David Rhoadarmer, all at home; his father, Ray Rhoadarmer of Spokane; one brother, Edd Rhoadarmer of Moses Lake; and one sister, Carol Toovey of Colbert.

Frank Braten Spokane

Memorial service for Frank N. Braten, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Braten, who died Saturday, was born in Holliday, N.D.

He worked as a civilian at Fairchild Air Force Base and in Moses Lake. He retired in 1970 and he and his wife, Bonita Braten, moved to Spokane from Soap Lake, Wash., in 1980.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, at home; three sons, Fred Braten of Cranston, R.I., Bill Braten of Newman Lake and Larry Wilson of Spokane; four daughters, Gaylee Mackie of Portland, Janet Fuller and Kathy McHenry, both of Spokane, and Chris Rowland of Soap Lake; one sister, Anne Roberts of Tacoma; 18 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Thelma Hall Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Thelma Christine Hall, 89, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Private inurnment will precede.

Mrs. Hall died July 14 at Pend Oreille Pines Nursing Home. She was born in Springdale, Wash.

She graduated from Milan (Wash.) High School and taught elementary school.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

Her husband, Harry Hall, died last year. She is survived by one son, John Hall of Chehalis, Wash.; one daughter, Donna Henderson of Spokane; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Emmett Corrigan Spokane

Vigil service for Emmett Joseph Corrigan, 88, is planned for 7:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Trentwood.

Mr. Corrigan, a retired airline pilot, died Monday. He was born in Everett.

He lived in Spokane for 70 years and graduated from Gonzaga University. He was a member of St. Augustine Parish, the Spokane Golf and Country Club, The Spokane Club, the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, President’s Council of Gonzaga University, the Airline Pilots Association, the American Society for Travel Agents and the Retired Northwest Airlines Pilots Association.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

His first wife, Helen Corrigan, and his second wife, Wilma Corrigan, preceded him in death.

He is survived by three sons, Michael Corrigan of Denver, Robert Corrigan of Newport Beach, Calif., and John Corrigan of Issaquah, Wash.; one daughter, Patricia Corrigan of Spokane; one brother, John Corrigan of Honolulu; one sister, Sister Josephine Mary Corrigan of Spokane; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gonzaga University Endowment Fund, Gonzaga University Alumni Association or the Poor Clare Nuns.

Lillian Johnson Baker City, Ore.

Graveside service for Lillian V. Johnson, former Spokane resident, is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at Riverside Memorial Park. Monroe Mortuary in Baker City is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, 84, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Baker City. She was born in Spokane and had lived in Baker City for the past five years.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Spokane and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Roy Johnson, died in 1984. She is survived by one daughter, Gayle Stanton of Baker City; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

Mary Ann Dotson Spokane

Memorial service is planned for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home for Mary Ann Dotson, 74. Cremation will precede.

Mrs. Dotson, who died Monday, lived in Spokane for more than 35 years. She was born in Nebraska and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Dotson of Pocatello, Idaho; four daughters, Carol Ann Morales and Evelyn Ford, both of Spokane, and Deborah DesJarlais and Karen Chapin, both of Elk; four sons, Richard Hearder of Gypsum Colo., Kurt Ellington and Mike and Patrick Connors, all of Spokane; two brothers, Melvin Curtis of Sunnyside, Wash., and Milton Curtis of Walla Walla; and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Charles Shollenberger Spokane

Vigil service for Charles “Charlie” Shollenberger, 85, is planned for 5:30 p.m. today at St. Paschal Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shollenberger, who died Sunday, was born in Bergan, N.D.

He lived in Spokane for 55 years and worked as a welder. He was a member of St. Paschal Parish.

His wife, Gertrude Shollenberger, died in 1981. He is survived by five sons, Leo Shollenberger of Greenacres, Robert Shollenberger of Millwood, and John, Mark and Michael Shollenberger, all of Spokane; five daughters, Theresa Maloney of Fairfax, Calif., Aileen Nuxoll of Walla Walla, Cecila Tesarik of Huntington Beach, Calif., Carol O’Kelley of Bothell, Wash., and Phyllis Williams of Spokane; 31 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Eugene Smith Spokane

Service for Eugene L. “Gene” Smith, 74, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith, who was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died Monday.

He lived in Spokane for more than 50 years and had worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Mead for 31 years before retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the Steelworkers Local No. 329, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Eagles and Alcoholics Anonymous. He was an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beatrice Smith, at home; one son, Clark Smith of Mead; two stepsons, Roy and Ron Hardin, both of Spokane; his mother, Alice Smith of Spokane; two brothers, Norman and Donald Smith, both of Spokane; four sisters, Lois Irving and Carrie Olson, both of Coeur d’Alene, Vivian West of Orcas Island, Wash., and Mary Alice Myers of Spokane; seven grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
