William Chubb Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for William H. Chubb, 88, is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Chubb, who was born in Leeds, Iowa, died Wednesday at Coeur d’Alene Convalescent Center.

He lived in Seattle and was the Northwest District Manager for Armstrong Cook.

He started several small businesses, including a driving range in Watsonville, Calif., and a restaurant in Chelan, Wash.

Mr. Chubb moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1953 and operated the Davy Crockett boat excursions on Lake Coeur d’Alene for 12 years.

He also operated a flying service in Sandpoint.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene, the Rathdrum Masonic Lodge Clover Chapter No. 33 and the Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Virginia Chubb, at home; three sons, William and Richard Chubb, both of Seattle, and Ronald Chubb of Columbia Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Shelley Dewey and Susan Primm, both of Seattle; two stepsons, Brian West of Coeur d’Alene and Rodney Shramek of Portland; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ellen Baker Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Ellen S. Baker, 89, is planned for noon today at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baker, a 20-year Coeur d’Alene resident, died Tuesday.

She was born in Grant County, Wis., and was a homemaker.

Her husband, William Baker, died in 1990. She is survived by two sons, Lyle Baker of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Thomas Baker of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Charlotte Swenson of Coeur d’Alene; three sisters, Frances, Gretta, and Bernice; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Roque `Rocky’ Chavez Elk

Memorial service for Roque “Rocky” Chavez, 60, is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Country Church of the Open Bible in Elk.

Mr. Chavez, a 23-year area resident, died Aug. 7. He was born in San Francisco.

He was a member of the merchant marines and served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Chavez worked at Whitworth College.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Julia Chavez, at home; one son, Joseph Chavez of Spokane; his father, Filigonio Chavez of San Francisco; five brothers, Carlos, Martin, Fernando, David and Santiago Chavez; three sisters, Gloria, Lupe and Carolina, all of San Francisco; three stepdaughters, Beth McRae of Wenatchee, Lou McKee of Colville, Wash., and Lynn Kitchen of Aloha, Ore.; two stepsons, James Abbott of Nine Mile Falls and Larrie Abbott of Deer Park; and numerous grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.

Alice Farrell Spokane

Funeral Mass for Alice Farrell, 84, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Farrell, who died Wednesday, was born in Grand Forks, N.D. She lived in Spokane for 50 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Her husband, John Farrell, died in 1967. She is survived by one son, John Farrell of Portland; five daughters, Joan Jans, Debra Andre and Anne French, all of Spokane, Colleen Burhans of Pottstown, Pa., and Lana Neeley of Rancho Santa Margurita, Calif.; one brother, Albert Nesland of Grand Forks, N.D.; one sister, Gertrude Nesland of Grand Forks; 10 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation in Crazy Horse, S.D.

Ada Wolfe Spokane

Graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park for Ada H. Wolfe. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wolfe, 82, died Tuesday.

She was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

She was a retired secretary for Spokane School District.

Mrs. Wolfe was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church, the Corbin Senior Center and the Corbin Hikers.

Her husband, Hugh Wolfe, died in 1988.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara VandeVanter and Bonnie Bell, both of Spokane; one son, Gary Wolfe of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one sister, Rozella Mohney of Spokane; one brother, Lawrence Held of Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Deacon’s Fund in care of Manito Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Spokane.

Raymond Reynolds Spokane

Service for Raymond W. Reynolds, 56, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Opportunity Free Methodist Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Reynolds, who was born in Logan, Utah, died Wednesday.

He graduated from the University of Utah and served in the Army. He worked as a geologist and retired in 1993.

He lived in Spokane for 11 years and started Painted Hills Eldercare Center in April with his wife, Donna Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife of 20 years, at home; five daughters, Tamara, Heidi, Jenny, Kathy and Becky; two brothers, George Reynolds of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Reynolds of Mantua, Utah; and three grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Opportunity Free Methodist Church.

Helen Koon Spokane

Memorial service for Helen L. Koon, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Terrace Chapel. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Koon, who died Sunday, was born in Thomson, Ill.

She moved to Spokane in 1916 and graduated from North Central High School. She left and worked for a publishing company for 38 years and returned to Spokane 33 years ago.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two stepsons, Palmer Koon and Mack Koon; and six grandchildren.

Florence Miller Rathdrum, Idaho

Graveside service for Florence Mae Miller, 65, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Miller, who died Tuesday at Kootenai Medical Center, was born in Medina, N.D.

She was a homemaker and moved to Rathdrum in 1952.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Marvin Miller, at home; two daughters, Penny Weitz and Kathy Swaghoven, both of Rathdrum; one sister, Viola Mann of Rathdrum; five grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter.

Vernon `Van’ Vandiver Spokane

Memorial service for Vernon K. “Van” Vandiver, 71, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Vandiver, who died Monday, was born in Greenacres and lived in the Spokane Valley all his life.

He retired from Clark Trailer in 1980. Since then, he and his wife have been traveling throughout the country in their motor home.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat Vandiver, at home; three sons, Greg Vandiver of Bremerton, Wash., Gary Vandiver of Kirkland, Wash., and Jeff Vandiver of Seattle; one daughter, Jodi Wibbels of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Leon Vandiver of Spokane; three sisters, Marge Rohde of Corvallis, Ore., and Gladys Geidt and Fay Baxter, both of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.
