Svelmoe Sparks University

Brandon Svelmoe led University with four RBIs, including the game-winner, in a 7-6 Greater Spokane League baseball win over host Mead Tuesday.

After trailing 2-0 through four innings, U-Hi bounced back with a five-run fifth to snatch the lead.

Mead’s Ray Hattenburg had a solo home run in the sixth inning as the Panthers (1-3) came back to tie the game 5-5.

Svelmoe’s two-RBI double in the seventh inning gave the Titans (3-1) a 7-5 lead. John Sims picked up the save for winner Andy Ferlott.

In other GSL games, Central Valley came from behind to top Ferris 3-2, Gonzaga Prep humbled Lewis and Clark 31-0 and Shadle Park ripped North Central 19-2.

CV (2-2) trailed the visiting Saxons (1-3) 2-0 until Andrew Larsen hit an RBI single and scored a run and teammate Eric Eigenhius slammed a two-out RBI double in a three-run fifth inning for the Bears.

Steve Gleason drove in eight runs to lead Gonzaga Prep (3-0) in its win over host Lewis and Clark (0-3).

Gleason went 5 for 6 and had a single, three doubles and a home run.

The Bullpups’ starting pitcher, Forrest Higgins, and reliever Brian Herrin tossed a one-hitter between them.

After a 12-run second inning on nine hits, Shadle Park coasted to its win over host North Central (0-3).

The Highlanders (3-1) were led by Darrin Talotti, who had four RBIs and was 2 for 5, Gerritt Wideman, who had four RBIs and was 3 for 6 and Brett Corigliano, who had three RBIs and was 3 for 4.

Pitcher Chris Wilson got his second win of the season and chalked up eight strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

Frontier League baseball

Pullman held on to beat host Clarkston (1-2, 2-5) 5-4.

Both pitchers had complete games as winning pitcher Ray Kallaher struck out 12 batters and walked three and the Bantams’ Jason Emery struck out nine and walked three.

Pullman (2-1, 2-2) scored the winning run in the sixth inning when Kurt Druffel squeezed Kallaher home from third with a bunt.

Despite scoring four runs in the seventh inning, Cheney (1-2) was unable to overcome host East Valley which held on to win 14-11.

The Knights (3-0) did the damage in the early innings and led 13-2 at the end of the third.

Corey Huston led the Knights with two two-run doubles.

West Valley never looked back after jumping out to a 2-0 lead against host Colville (1-2) and earned a 15-6 win. In a balanced attack, Tim Eklund, Andy Imada and Riley Allen had three RBIs apiece for WV (1-2).

Frontier League soccer

John Evermann scored both of Pullman’s goals in a 2-1 win over visiting Riverside/Deer Park (2-3). Pullman is 2-2. R/DP’s goal was scored by Seth McKay.
