M’S Open Vs. Tigers With Half-Price Fare

Associated Press

Seattle will open its revised American League schedule in the Kingdome on April 27 against the Detroit Tigers, the Mariners announced Friday.

Seattle’s Thursday opener at 7:35 p.m. PDT will kick off a four-game series against the Tigers to wind up the month of April.

The Mariners and Tigers will play again April 28 at 7:35 p.m., April 29 at 7:05 p.m. and April 30 at 5:05 p.m. Tickets for the Mariners’ first four home games will be available at half price ($7.50 to $3).

After their opening-season homestand, the Mariners go on a nine-game road trip to Texas (May 1-3), California (May 5-7) and Oakland (May 9-11) before returning to the Kingdome to face the Chicago White Sox in a three-game series (May 12-14).But baseball’s strike of nearly eight months that finally ended last Friday forced a second spring training of three weeks for regular players after six weeks of spring training with replacement players.

The Mariners’ revised 144-game schedule has 72 home games and 72 road games. It has four additional road games and two fewer home dates than the original schedule.

The added road games are May 22 in Detroit, July 3 in Detroit, Aug. 17 in Oakland and Sept. 7 in Cleveland. The two home games no longer on the schedule are Sept. 21 against Oakland and Sept. 25 against California.

The Mariners announced anyone holding tickets for canceled games originally scheduled for April 7-9 and April 11-12 can exchange them for similar seats to any game during the season, including opening night. The tickets also can be returned for a refund.
