Fisherman Discovers Body In River

A fisherman found the body of an unidentified man Sunday in the Spokane River near Nine Mile Falls. The body was floating face down and appeared to have been in the water for some time, according to a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy.

Authorities would not speculate on the identity of the man, although it is known that two men jumped off the Monroe Street Bridge in February.

On Feb. 1, a Spokane police officer saw a man jump off the bridge. A helicopter circled the area for about an hour, but there was no sign of the body.

On Feb. 9, two people walking across the bridge saw a man sitting on the east ledge of the bridge. They tried to talk to him, but he jumped. Again, searchers found no sign of the body.

A body was recovered from the river on Feb. 17 in the area of the the 3200 block of West Boone. Information on whether that body has been identified was unavailable Sunday.
