Clarkston Runs Ahead Of Pack On Racetrack

The Clarkston boys established themselves as early favorites to win the Frontier League track championship by defeating West Valley Thursday afternoon.

Adam Johnson captured wins in the 200 (24.1 seconds), 400 (52.2) and 1,600-meter relays (3:37.5) as the visiting Bantams cruised to an 81-64 victory.

Darin Larson was a double winner for Clarkston clocking time of 16.1 in the 110 high hurdles and 43.2 in the 300 low hurdles.

The Eagles’ Vinnie Pecht threw a league best 141 feet, 2 inches in the discus, while teammate Clayton Homes earned wins in the 1,600 (4:43.1) and 3,200 (10:24.2).

At Cheney, Pat Ferguson was a triple winner with victories in the high jump (6-0), long jump (20-6) and triple jump (40-7) to lead East Valley past the Blackhawks 104-41.

Rob Shogren tied his leagueleading time in the 300 low hurdles (42.5) for the Knights, while the Blackhawks’ Trace Dotson broke his own league best mark with a 2:04.1 in the 800.

At Pullman, Ricardo Colon recorded a league-best mark in the long jump (21-11) as the Greyhounds downed Colville 86.5 to 48.5.

Joe Geccas turned in the meet’s only double wins with his times in the 100 (11.3) and 200 (23.2).In girls’ action, West Valley established four league best marks as the Eagles crushed Clarkston 102-39.

Kaci Stansbury set a West Valley school record with her throw of 136-1 in the discus, shattering her previous season-best mark by 5 feet. Teammate Aimee Aldendorf also established a league mark with a put of 39-11 in the shot put.

At Cheney, Crystal Cook ran a 1:04.6 in the 400 as East Valley downed the Blackhawks.

Beth Madison turned in double wins in the 200 (28.7) and 100 (13.7), while fellow Knight Crystal Nicholson won the 100 (17.0) and 300 hurdles (50.3).

At Pullman, Michelle Wahl cleared 14-10 in the long jump and 25-5 in the triple jump as the Greyhounds defeated Colville 76-65.

Soccer

Cheney’s 3-0 win against West Valley improved the Blackhawks’ record to 7-0-1, however, East Valley’s 3-0 win over Colville allowed the Knights (7-1-1) to keep pace with Cheney.

In the other Frontier League game, Riverside beat Clarkston 5-0.

At Cheney, West Valley (4-3-1) came out and controlled the ball for the first 10 minutes before Cheney responded.

At the 14-minute mark, Cheney’s Trevor Harelson beat an Eagles’ sweeper and scored on a chip shot from 15-yards out for the Blackhawks’ first goal.

At East Valley, the Knights dominated, outshooting the Indians 28-2.

EV’s Chris Skidmore, Raymond Hansen and Matt Bly scored for the Knights.

At Clarkston, Deer Park/Riverside dominated the Bantams, 35-2 in shots.

Ryan Baker scored DP/R’s first goal with just a minute gone by and the team was never challenged by Clarkston.

Softball

At West Valley, Eagles’ pitcher Darcy Sohns pitched her second straight no-hitter in a five-inning rain-shortened 9-0 win over East Valley.
