Medical Lake’s Thomas Throws Another No-Hitter

For the second time in four days, Medical Lake pitcher Jeremy Thomas has pitched a no-hitter.

Thomas fanned nine in a 9-0 Northeast A baseball triumph over visiting Newport, allowing only three baserunners. He also hit a double and triple to drive in three runs.

Tuesday against Colfax, he struck out 10 and allowed only two runners, both of whom were thrown out.

Riverside pitcher Janessa Karstens threw her first no-hitter of the season, striking out 11 and walking one in beating host Lakeside 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader sweep by the Rams (11-1).

Newport suffered its first loss in a doubleheader split against Medical Lake. That set up a title game Tuesday between Riverside and the Grizzlies at Newport.

The senior midfielder was hit so hard while scoring the game’s third goal 16 minutes into the second half that he was knocked off his feet, and he landed on his back with his shorts at his ankles.

The host Bullpups (13-1-0-2) finished second in league with a 4-1 victory over North Central (7-5-2-2). Joey Ascolese scored twice to give him 18 goals for the year.

League champion Mead (14-0-2-0) won 1-0 at Lewis and Clark (7-6-3-0) on Andy Smid’s touch off a cross from Ben Baxter at the 68-minute mark.

Shadle Park midfielder Nathan Axel scored his first goal of a fouryear varsity career (the first two at Rogers) on a penalty kick to cap the Highlanders’ (7-6-0-3) 3-1 home victory over Central Valley (3-12-0-1).

Ferris (3-11-1-1) ended its season at home with a 2-0 win over Rogers (0-16) on goals by David Marr and Brent Mosberry.

The first round of the league playoffs are Wednesday, with Prep hosting North Central, and Lewis and Clark traveling to University (7-5-3-1) in loser-out matches.
