Girl Taken From Mom Who Chained Her

Compiled From Wire Services

A judge on Monday temporarily took a 13-year-old girl away from her mother for chaining the teenager’s ankles to keep her from running away.

Over the past four years, Dana Linton has run away more than six times, disappearing for a week to three months at a time, her family said.

DeKalb County Juvenile Court Judge Gregory Adams ruled that Glenda Linton had deprived her daughter of proper care and ordered the girl placed temporarily in state custody.

Dana has said she fled whenever she got tired of the drug-dealing in school or her parents’ bickering at home.

But she said she took refuge with drug dealers.

Last month, Glenda Linton put a 4-foot chain and two padlocks on Dana during a meeting with the girl’s summer school principal.

The principal called police.
