Cheney Man Dies In Single-Car Wreck

A 24-year-old Cheney man died early Sunday after a one-car accident near the intersection of Cheney-Spokane and Grove roads.

Scott G. Bauknecht was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The accident happened at 11:35 p.m. Saturday when Bauknecht’s pickup was driving east on Cheney-Spokane Road. The truck left the road, hit an embankment on the right and Bauknecht was thrown from the vehicle, the WSP said. He suffered massive internal injuries.

Bauknecht was pronounced dead at 12:34 a.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Medical Center, according to the WSP.
