Deputy’s Fatal Shots Justified, Prosecutor Says

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy was justified when he shot and killed a Stanwood man in May after a standoff, the county prosecutor’s office has determined.

The finding cleared Detective David S. Heitzman and he has returned to his normal duties, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Nolan Davis, 38, shot and killed his father Robert Davis on May 3, then attempted to kill his mother, the statement said.

After a 2-1/2-hour standoff, Davis emerged from a cabin with a 12-gauge shotgun and an aggressive manner, the statement said.

After Davis refused to put down his weapon, Heitzman fired several shots, the statement said.
