Kidnap, Assault Suspect Rounded Up
Davenport fugitive Free A. Green never had a chance to become the most celebrated outlaw of Lincoln County - New Mexico, that is.
That title is still held by Billy the Kid, who is buried at Fort Sumner, N.M., where local police corralled Green faster than you can say William Bonney.
Green waived extradition and a judge held court on Thanksgiving to send him packing.
Davenport Police Chief Phillips Robertson went to Fort Sumner and escorted Green to jail in Lincoln County, Wash., where he was wanted for first-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault. They arrived late Wednesday.
Green, 22, is suspected of leading six people - including his roommate, Jason C. Marquez, 19, and five teenagers - in torturing a 19-year-old Davenport man for 3-1/2 hours on Nov. 12.
In addition to repeatedly beating and choking John Brown Jr., Green is accused of throwing darts into Brown.
Brown said he went to Green and Marquez’s house for a beer party, but was attacked when some of the drunken guests mistakenly concluded he was a police informer.
Robertson said Green and Marquez fled with another man, who has relatives in Fort Sumner. But Marquez returned and surrendered, saying he feared for his life when Green and the other man threatened to rape him.
