Snow Sport Report

Compiled By Conrad Jungmann

Alpine skiing

Unseasonably mild temperatures and rain are still preventing area ski resorts from opening this weekend. Cooler weather predicted to move in this weekend and intense snow making may allow some resorts to start cranking up chairs next weekend.

Big Sky, Mont., is open with a 60-inch base and 7 lifts in operation.

Blackcolme, British Columbia, is open on a daily basis with limited skiing on 6 chairs and a 30 inch base.

Big Mountain, Mont., is 40 percent open with a 45 inch base and four open chairs.

Fitness Fanatics and members of the U.S. National and Olympic Cross Country ski teams will be having a free ski waxing clinic on Dec. 6. Info: 922-6080.

Nordic skiing

The International Wild Moose Cup FIS race is still scheduled for Dec. 8-10 at

Mount Spokane but coordinators will make a final decision today. Updates: 238-4025.

The new grooming schedule for Mount Spokane this season will be everyday except Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Sun Mountain trail in the Methow Valley is packed and groomed in limited areas. Info: (800)682-5787.

Snowmobiling

There’s not enough snow on the region’s snowmobile trails to start grooming, but some districts report minimal activity in the high country and high passes.
