Jaromir Jagr scored two goals in the third period to raise his total to 22 and lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Friday night at Pittsburgh.
The Penguins have won four consecutive games since their only two-game losing streak. The Panthers have lost consecutive games for the first time this season.

Nicklas Lidstrom had a goal and an assist to lead Detroit to victory over Anaheim.
The win was Detroit’s 10th in 11 games, and improved the Red Wings to 7-0-2 lifetime against the Ducks. Meanwhile, December got off to a bad start for the Mighty Ducks, who had their first-ever winning month in November.
The teams traded first-period goals. Viacheslav Butsayev got his first at 4:56 when he skated past Paul Coffey, waited for Marc Bergevin to slide by, then beat Mike Vernon with his second try.

Mark Messier scored two goals and added an assist as New York extended its home unbeaten streak to nine games with a win over Colorado.
In the first meeting since the Rangers defeated the then-Quebec Nordiques in the first round of last season’s playoffs, New York scored the first four goals and put the game away when Messier scored on the power play 19 seconds into the third period.
Pat Verbeek had a goal and two assists for the Rangers, now 8-0-1 at home since Oct. 22. Ray Ferraro and Sergei Nemchinov also scored for New York.

Barnaby put the Sabres ahead 1-0 with 1:32 left in the first period. Skating in on a 3-on-2, Derrick Plante left the puck for Barnaby, who put a hard slap shot from about 30 feet past Whalers goaltender Sean Burke high on his glove side.
