Science Center On Council Agenda

From Staff And Wire Reports

A ballot-box defeat of plans for a Pacific Science Center in Riverfront Park’s Pavilion didn’t necessarily kill the proposal.

Spokane City Council members tonight will consider whether to hold another public hearing on the issue Jan. 29.

The city Park Board voted last month to ask the City Council to give the measure another try next March. This time around, a set of studies would explore costs related to improving the Pavilion and relocating its carnival rides.

Voters narrowly defeated the science center proposal last September.

Also tonight, the council will:

Take public comment on the city’s proposed 1996 spending plan.

Hear an appeal from Chuck E. Cheese of the city’s decision to let Century Properties redevelop Shadle Center.

A briefing for citizens begins at 3 p.m. in the lower-level conference room of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The council briefing starts at 3:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 6.
