Abc To Announce All-News Network

Compiled From Wire Services

ABC is expected to announce today that it plans to launch an all-news network aimed at competing with CNN, sources said.

Capital Cities/ABC president Robert Iger and ABC News chief Roone Arledge are expected to hold a news conference to unveil plans.

The announcement comes less than a week after media baron Rupert Murdoch revealed his own plans to start up a 24-hour cable news network.

It has been rumored for some time that ABC the top-rated news network - wanted to start its own all-news channel. That move would allow it to tap into the news gathering resources of such popular newscasts as “World News Tonight,” “Good Morning America,” “Nightline,” “Prime Time Live” and “20/20.”
