The son of Oregon defensive coordinator Charlie Waters has died less than two weeks before his 18th birthday.
Cody Waters, a senior at Marist High School, died in his sleep Sunday night in Eugene, Ore. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Charlie Waters, a three-time Pro Bowl selection at defensive back in 12 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys from 1970 to 1981, had moved his family to Eugene early this year when he was hired by new Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti.
In Starkville, Miss., Mississippi State offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and defensive coordinator Bill Clay resigned following a meeting with football coach Jackie Sherrill.
The Bulldogs lost seven of their last eight games to finish at 3-8. Sherrill was also 3-8 in his first season as a head coach, 1976 at Washington State.
