Frank Yuse Receives Regional Citizen Of Harmony Award
Frank Yuse a retired Spokane teacher, recently received the Citizen of Harmony award from the Evergreen District of the Society for the Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.
The district includes Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, British Columbia, and Alberta.
Yuse is the 5th Congressional District VOTE representative for the American Association of Retired Persons, a Spokane County Plan commissioner and a member of the state Citizens Ecology Advisory Board.
Before retiring, he taught all age levels from elementary through college, and at Shadle Park High School was department head of English, foreign language and humanities.
He is acting as editor of “Honey in the Mouth: Meditations from St. Bernard,” a book of daily liturgical meditation, published by Apostle Publishing in Marshall, Wash.
Michael Newman, a Spokane writer, received an honorable mention by Rimrock Fiction Magazine for the magazine’s first short-fiction contest, which attracted writers from several Western states.
Michael Rainville, Spokane, received his commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating from the UND Aerospace at the University of North Dakota, where he is a senior.
Four Inland Northwest students have won scholarships from Western Washington University in Bellingham:
Perry McDonald, son of Craig McDonald, Spokane, received a $300 vocal jazz scholarship. He is a senior majoring in music performance.
Dana Brannan and Julianne Connell, both of Spokane, each received $2,343 in Washington Scholar Awards.
This is the second time Brannan, a sophomore with a 3.91 grade-point average, has won this award, and the third time Connell, a sophomore with a 3.92 grade-point average, has received it.
Aaron Gaskins, Wellpinit, Wash., received a $300 graduate tuition and fee waiver. Students are nominated by graduate program advisors.
Jeff Snell, son of Edna Snell and the late Stephen M. Snell, graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a degree in mathematics education. He is a 1991 graduate of Mead High School.
Dr. Todd Wylie, Spokane, has been inducted as a fellow in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. This is the highest clinical certification in the area of vision therapy and visual information processing.
Vicky Gould received the Thanks Badge from the Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council. It’s the council’s highest adult recognition award.
