Hal Morris Accepts Pay Cut
The Reds agreed to a $5 million, two-year contract with first baseman Hal Morris. Morris, who made $3.3 million last season, agreed to take a pay cut of more than 50 percent for 1996. He’ll receive $1.6 million next year and $3.1 million in 1997. In other baseball news:
Shortstop Dick Schofield, 33, and the California Angels agreed to a minor-league contract.
The Rangers claimed outfielder Darren Lewis off the waiver list and expect to decide soon if he will be next year’s starting center fielder.
Lewis was placed on waivers last week by the Cincinnati Reds.
Tony Pena agreed to a $525,000, one-year contract, a raise of $75,000, with Cleveland.
Pitcher Paul Quantrill was traded by Philadelphia to Toronto for third baseman Howard Battle and lefthander Ricardo Jordan.
The New York Mets agreed to a $5 million, twoyear contract with shortstop Jose Vizcaino.
Left-hander Mike Munoz and the Rockies agreed to a $280,000, one-year contract, a cut of $20,000.
Reliever Danny Cox and the Blue Jays agreed to a minor-league contract that would pay him $490,000 if he makes the team.
