Lula Barber Lewiston

Service for Lula McClure Barber, a former Moscow, Idaho, resident, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Burial will be at Oakesdale (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Barber died Sunday at Valley Rehabilitation and Living Center in Lewiston. She was 100.

She was born near Montezuma, N.C., and moved to LaCrosse, Wash., with her family, when she was 6.

She married Thomas McClure in Spokane in 1913, and they lived in Spokane, St. John, Lamont, and Palouse, Wash. In Palouse, she cooked at the lunch counter she and her husband operated for 10 years. They moved to Colfax, where they operated a grocery store. Mr. McClure died in 1952.

She married Ralph Barber in Coeur d’Alene in 1953, and they operated the Campus Motel in Moscow and the Green Gables Motel in Lewiston. Mr. Barber died in 1970.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church.

Survivors include two daughters, Berniece Carlin of Lewiston and Marjorie Day of Rosalia Wash.; one son, Thomas McClure Jr., of Vancouver, Wash.; two stepsons and one stepdaughter; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 40 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oakesdale Cemetery.

Edna Bedient Valleyford

Memorial service for Edna M. Bedient, 95, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bedient, a longtime Valleyford resident, died Monday.

She was born in Spangle.

She worked as a cook for Valleyford, Lindberg and Freeman schools until she retired.

She had also spent summers cooking for the Forest Service in the St. Joe Forest in the mid-1950s and early 1960s.

She was a member of Rebecca Lodge in Spokane

Mrs. Bedient’s survivors include two sisters, Olive Johnson of Napa, Calif., and Evelyn Richardson of San Jose, Calif.; one grandson, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandsons.

Phyllis Williams Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Phyllis Lucille Williams, 67, will be today at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Williams, a longtime Coeur d’Alene educator, died Sunday.

She was born in Weiser, Idaho, and was raised and educated in Coeur d’Alene. After graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1946, she attended the University of Idaho. She graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1950 with a degree in education. She completed one year of graduate work.

Ms. Williams, who taught school in Pasco for several years, was a teacher in Coeur d’Alene for 22 years.

She was honored by the Borah Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association for outstanding work in education and was also a Camp Fire leader for 25 years.

She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, working in the church library and singing in the choir. She loved swimming, lifeguarding, ceramics, hiking, bicycling and reading.

Ms. Williams was past president of Church Women United and the Coeur d’Alene Homes Auxiliary. She also held positions in the Pythian Sisters Woodbine Temple and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include three nephews, James Wells of Colbert, Donald Williams of California and David Williams of Pennsylvania; six grandnieces and one grandnephew.

Steve Setliff Spokane

Memorial service for Steve E. Setliff, 39, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Setliff, who died Sunday at home from cancer, was born in Adrian, Mich.

He received the Purple Heart Award while serving in the Vietnam War.

A 10-year Spokane resident, Mr. Setliff had worked for R.P.M. Service Center.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Setliff; one son, Matthew; one daughter, Jennifer; one stepdaughter, Christine; his mother, Mary Setliff of Michigan; and one sister, Nedra Stewart, and one brother, Dave Setliff, both of Michigan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Mary Fraijo Spokane

Memorial service for Mary Fraijo, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spangle Christian Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home of Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fraijo died Monday.

She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1945 and married Ernest Fraijo that same year.

She worked at Farragut Naval Training Station as an administrative assistant and later worked in a cafe. She then began working as an accountant for Harry F. Magnuson, Co., Coeur d’Alene Auto Parts, and Pendar Electric in Coeur d’Alene.

In 1967 the family moved to Spokane, where she worked for various accounting firms and operated her own business.

Mrs. Fraijo was active in the American Society of Women Accountants and had served on the Business Advisory Committee at Spokane Falls Community College.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ernest Fraijo; five daughters, Jeanne Gerke, Leslie Miller, and Laura and Christine Fraijo, all of Spokane, and Becky Rogers of Spangle; one brother, Jack Wilson of Spokane; three sisters, Alice Warkentin of Abbottsford, British Columbia, June Okendahl of Boise and Gladys Nyberg of Spokane; her mother, Margaret Wilson; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Society of Women Accountants Scholarship Fund or the American Lung Association.

Samuel Pearson Spokane

Service for Samuel E. Pearson, 60, was held Nov. 29 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 18th Ward. Burial was at the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Pearson, who died Nov. 26, was born in California. He was an industrial arts teacher at Freeman High School for 19 years. He was also the girls track/ cross-country coach.

He was a member and elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Hosta Society and the Washington Education Association.

Mr. Pearson’s survivors include his wife, Vicki; five daughters, Robin, Lori, Bobi Jean, Kari and Kristi; four sons, Scot, Chuck, Steven and Michael; three brothers, Bill, Larry and David; two sisters, Patty and Joyce; and 14 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to 12th Ward Missionary Fund.

Marie Bergau Newport, Wash.

Service for Marie M. Bergau, 94, will be at 10 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. ShermanKnapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bergau died Monday at Pend Oreille Pines Nursing Home in Newport. She had formerly lived in Usk, Wash.

She was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States when she was 9.

She married Otto Bergau in Wilbur in 1922, and they moved to Dalkena, Wash., in 1930.

She was a member of the Davis Lake Grange.

Her husband died in 1972.

Mrs. Bergau is survived by two sons, Glenn “Swede” Bergau of Dalkena and Arthur Bergau of Vancouver, Wash.; one brother, Herman Menke, and one sister, Pat Lee, both of Newport; six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dalkena Community Church.

Richard Gaydos Spokane

No service will be held for Richard J. Gaydos. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Gaydos, who died Monday, was born in Newark, N.J. He was 57.

He had served in the Air Force and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base.

He had lived in Spokane since 1973 and worked for The SpokesmanReview for 22 years as a mailer.

Survivors include his wife, Jessica Gaydos; one son, Richard Gaydos of Tacoma; three daughters, Michelle Hayden of Tacoma, Lori Rigby of Newport, Wash., and Linda Kennedy of Seattle; his mother, Mildred Gaydos of New Jersey; one brother and one sister, both of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren.
