Davenport Beats Liberty

Davenport used a 26-point fourth period to overcome a four-point deficit and beat Liberty 64-53 in its Bi-County League opener in Davenport on Friday night.

Davenport (1-0, 3-0) took advantage of the absence of 6-foot Liberty center Amy Torguson, who fouled out in the fourth quarter. The Gorillas had four players in double figures - Jennifer Pauls with 16 points, Christy Cowdrey with 15, Ky Marriott with 13 and Christie Emery with 12. Cowdrey also had 12 rebounds. Becky Bothman led Liberty (0-1, 2-1) with 15 points. Jo Cory added 12.

Odessa played pressure defense and shot nearly 50 percent. Kori Walter led the Tigers with 18 points and Deanna Schorzman had 15. Tracy Shaw had eight assists and Nicole Hunt eight rebounds for Odessa.

Audrey Wallace’s clutch performance in overtime sent Falls Christian to a road victory. She scored four points in OT on a pair of offensive putbacks off missed FC free throws.

Wallace had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Sarah Peterson led Falls with 18 points. For Valley (1-2), Carmen Evans had 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and three Panthers scored nine points each, but VC had only two overtime points.
