Kennewick Dumps Mead, 63-51

AAA/AA girls

Carmel Lampson scored 22 points to lead Kamiakin past Mead 63-51 in a non-league game between Class AAA girls basketball powers Friday night in Kennewick.

The Braves (2-0) outscored the Panthers 21-11 in the fourth quarter after Mead had pulled to within two at 42-40.

Chelsea Clark had 11 rebounds to lead the Panthers (2-1), while teammates Stacey Clinesmith and Alison Beatty each recorded seven assists. Clinesmith was the only Mead player in double figures with 16.

Mead had won both its games this season by an average of 40.5 points against other Big Nine teams. The Braves, who have won trophies at the past five state tournaments as had Mead, are overwhelming favorites to win the Big Nine again.

Heather Woolan’s jumper with 30 seconds remaining gave the AA Indians (1-1) an upset win over the AAA Highlanders (3-1) at Colville.

Heather Wood made three 3-pointers for Colville, and Shadle Park played without JoEne Heimbigner, the Highlanders’ leading scorer.

In a battle of the Pirates, Davis beat Rogers (1-2) as the Spokane school missed four free throws and a lay-up in the final 20 seconds at Rogers.

Anna Murlielle had six rebounds and 15 points for Rogers. Davis rallied from a late eight-point deficit.

Becky Huddle hit a pair of free throws with 45 seconds left to give the Tigers (3-0) a win over the Chiefs at Moses Lake.

Moses Lake rallied back from a 13-point deficit to close within one, but Lewis and Clark was 4 for 5 from the free-throw line in the final 1:30 of the game.

Sophomore Amy George had eight of her 10 points in the first quarter and Jennifer Swinton had 10 of her 18 in the first half as the Saxons (3-0) built a 35-14 lead midway through the game and coasted past the visiting Blackhawks (1-2).

Ferris got its fast break going early with Jayme Morrisette getting six assists feeding George for layups. Swinton also added 10 rebounds.

Jenny Moslemi had nine of Moscow’s (8-0) 30 steals in a win over the host Greyhounds (0-5).

Molly Fisher grabbed 16 rebounds for Pullman, but the Greyhounds committed 21 turnovers in the second half.

Pullman shot just 7 for 33 from the field and 8 for 22 from the free-throw line. Moscow was 16 for 58 from the field and 14 for 18 from the line.
