Special Donkey Too Much For Family

Associated Press

If JoJo has been a real jackass lately, well, blame it on his lousy home life.

This donkey with a dysfunctional background has been nursed back to health from near death by Duff and Dee Dee Livingstone, but he’s just not fitting in on the farm.

Very much set in his ways at age 21, JoJo is not getting along with the Livingstones’ seven dogs, assorted goats and numerous cats. Any pet that ventures into his pen runs the risk of being on the receiving end of JoJo’s considerable bite.

“We love him very much and we want to keep him but we were not prepared for the fact that JoJo has somehow become aggressive with all other animals,” Dee Dee Livingstone said.

So the family is reluctantly looking for a new home for the donkey. But they emphasize he’s something of a special-needs donkey and therefore needs a special home.

JoJo’s previous owner faces a charge of animal abuse. JoJo is a ward of the court, so anyone who takes him must serve as a foster care provider. When the case is over, the provider would take over ownership.

JoJo only will be turned over to someone who has a good corral and room for romping. He probably would get along with horses. He certainly won’t with smaller animals, especially dogs.

“We will be particular,” Dee Dee Livingstone emphasized. “They don’t need to call unless they’re really serious about providing an excellent home for him.”

Last August, JoJo was found along a county road with gaping wounds on his left shoulder, along his left side and belly and on all four legs. He also had a gash over one eye.

Josephine County animal control officers determined that the man who had owned JoJo had tied the animal’s lead rope to the bumper of his vehicle and attempted to pull him home.
